About the Author
Hi! I'm Vladimir Skesov, a Senior DevOps Engineer at Scale Final. Currently living and working in Limassol, Cyprus.
Debugging AI dreams, building cloud infrastructure, and finding balance on two wheels.
My journey into IT wasn't typical. I came from heavy industry, with an engineering
background forged long before my first docker run.
Professional Background
DevOps (2021 — Present)
In four years, I've progressed from a Junior to a Head of DevOps. I love automating everything that follows logic.
- Scale Final: Managing multi-cloud infrastructure and designing scalable systems.
- Spotware Systems: Led a DevOps team of 4. Supported build systems for the cTrader platform, implemented HashiCorp Vault, and transitioned the team to a shared ownership model.
- Open Mobile Platform: Automated OS builds using Jenkins, GitLab, and Open Build System.
Mechanical Engineering (2012 — 2020)
I spent eight years at "Krasnodar Bakery No. 6." I started as a mechanical fitter and worked my way up to Chief Mechanical Engineer.
I reconstructed workshops, designed automated production lines, and lubricators for FTL tunnel ovens. The factory taught me responsibility: there, a design error meant production stops and tons of wasted dough, not just a crashed server. This experience laid the foundation for my approach to system reliability.
Technologies
- Cloud: DigitalOcean, Hetzner, GCP, OCI.
- Orchestration: Kubernetes, Docker.
- IaC & CI/CD: Terraform, Ansible, Packer, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins.
- Security & Backups: HashiCorp Vault, Restic.
- Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, Vector, Node Exporter.
- Languages: Python, Groovy.
Blog and Motivation
I previously ran skesov.ru and geekteam.pro focused on Windows. Now I write about Linux and Cloud Native. The motivation is simple: the web is full of junk and outdated manuals. In this blog, I publish only verified solutions to real tasks.
Beyond the Monitor
- Motorcycles: An avid rider. My Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro has been my companion for over 22,000 km.
- Books: 130+ books read since 2012. From fantasy classics to the Google SRE Handbook.
- Gaming: In Escape from Tarkov, I value realism. Survival Rate: 78%.
- Photography: Shooting with a Nikon Z fc.
I'm always open to networking and sharing experiences. Feel free to reach out if you find my topics interesting!
